Emergency evacuation & medical
Evacuation coverage pays to move you to care; medical coverage pays treatment bills. Most cards offer neither, or only a help line.
What it is
Emergency evacuation pays for medically necessary transport to a suitable hospital, or home. Emergency medical coverage pays treatment costs while you are away. Few cards we checked list either with a dollar limit; many offer only an assistance line that refers you to providers you pay yourself.
Why it matters
US health plans may cover little or nothing outside the US; check your own plan. Medical costs and evacuation abroad are the gap people most often fill with a standalone travel medical policy.
These are general descriptions. The exact terms on your card are in its Guide to Benefits. Not insurance advice.
